Volume 9, which has an index near the back, includes handwritten copies of Robert Mair and Gilbert Mair's correspondence, newspaper extracts, and recollections of everyday events like an American polar expedition, whalers, the kauri gum trade, and a woman's murder in Whangarei. He describes various locations such as [Te] Wahapu, Poor Knights, Ngunguru, Matakohe, Manaia and includes photographs.
