DescriptionThe first Christmas service in New Zealand was held by the Reverend Samuel Marsden in 1814 at Oihi, near Rangihoua in the Bay of Islands. In 1964 the 150th anniversary of this event was celebrated. A descendant of Rev. Marsden's, Rev. R. E. Marsden, spoke at the commemorative service.
