Title Built by Ann & James Main
DescriptionA rock wall on a street corner in Whangarei.
Ann and James Main emigrated from Scotland to Whangarei in 1859, taking up a land grant in the area that later become known as Kensington. The many rocks on their land were put to good use in building walls to enclose their paddocks. Both Ann and James participated in this work, although Ann was a woman of diminutive stature. The couple had six children. Mains Avenue was named for them.
