Description
Walton Street in Whangarei looking west towards Maunu and the Western Hills. The street was named after Henry Walton who was a prominent early settler and businessman in Northland. On the right is R Elliott's City Bakery and house. Both are wooden two-story buildings. The home has an attic. Rowland Elliott was a baker in Kamo before opening a bakery on Walton Street in Whangarei in 1898. He and his wife Marion Jean (nee Love) ran their business in Whangarei until 1911. They had a bakery shop in Cameron Street for a time until 1911. Before the bakery is the intersection of Walton Street with Vine Street. Beyond the bakery is a church.
